THE WORLD ENDED WHEN WE DUG
When the surface ran dry, we dug deeper.
Down in the dark we found something older than the earth itself, sleeping where it should have been left.
We woke what should have stayed asleep.
The ground cracked open.
Cities sank into a fog that drives men mad.
What climbed out of the deep took the world and remade the living in its own image.
What is left of humanity clings to the edge of the pit.
